- I just dloaded a copy of linux for experementation/teasing on a system here at
- school. I only use the floppy disk image since I don't even OWN a computer, yet
-
- At first glance, I'm very impressed. I still have a few questions which I will
- post if I can't answere them otherwise. But I did find two instances of strange
- behavior:
-
- 1) the login sequence is wrong. (IMVHO) in my VERY humble opinion.
- When you boot linux, you get the login prompt. Enter the name of a user that
- does NOT exist. You immediately get another login prompt. You should get the
- password prompt. Not a very big problem, but I, as a newbie unix user,
- noticed it.
-
- 2) I was playing with the sys. on a (choke) PS-2 55sx with 2Mb ram. (snicker)
- This isn't the system I usually use. I found that if you select any SVGA modes
- but 80-25, the system locks. I can give more info if anyone thinks its that
- important.
-
- 3) I don't know if this is a bug, but it is strange. I was playing with the
- PS-2 again. Remember, 2Mb ram and a 95% full fs. I was loged on as user and
- su'ed to root. I got an out of swap space error and a core dump. Then I got
- a prompt. Was the command a success? I wanted to find out. I did a whoami.
- "root" I did a who. "user" I tryed to mount a fs. Got a permission denied
- error msg. I was loged on as root with no privs! Thought I'd let ya'll
- know.
-
- I got this system as a learning experiance. It was actually a charge to log
- in as root. I'm learning a lot, but I expect to have a few questions later.
