- Whenever I start X386 1.2E 1.0, I have problems to get it to accept my
- keyboard input. If I start it from the first VC, it doesn't seem to
- accept any input at all. If I start it from a different VC and quickly
- switch to VC1 (don't know whether it's really needed), I get the
- following behaviour:
-
- - before the window manager (gwm, but happens with twm too) starts,
- it accepts about every second keystroke.
- - when the window manager is up, only the [3/#] key works. If I
- quickly hit random combinations of keys, the keyboard begins to
- accept more and more keys (e.g. [Q] [E] [T] [U] but not [R] [Y],
- etc.) until it finally works the way it should. This procedure
- usually takes several minutes.
- - if it works, it doesn't return to that weird state.
- - if I get it to work, I can terminate X and restart it without
- experiencing the problem again. Though, VC1 doesn't accept input
- anymore.
- - a reboot gets me back to square one.
- - disconnecting and re-connecting (= power-cycling) the keyboard
- doesn't help.
- - after pressing [3], other keys are accepted for about one second.
- - while only [3/#] is accepted, I can slowly try all other (non-shift)
- keys and the don't have any visible effect. [CapsLock], etc. don't
- have any effect, either.
- - [Shift] usually influences [3/#]. Sometimes, only one of the
- [Shift] keys does this.
- - if I release a shift key after that ~one-second-interval after
- [3/#] has ended, that transition is lost.
-
- I've also tried X386 1.1 and had the same problem.
-
- I suspect a mainboard problem (386DX/25, ABC, AMI BIOS), because I've
- also had keyboard problems with DESQview (the arrow keys and the six
- keys above them sometimes failed to send a code), but it works 100%
- problem-free with Linux w/o X, and with X after that bit of playing.
-
- Has anybody seen this before ? Any help is welcome, thanks !
