- Hi,
-
- Recently "re-installed" my whole system using the SLS package (great work!)
- since I was still working with 0.95c+ and utilities I compiled. Everything
- went fine (except having to remove my 1542B to boot :-) and I compiled the
- latest kernel w/o SCSI. I then proceeded to try a few other things like
- compiling ps for 0.97-4, and installing Emacs (disk 10). I was unable to
- compile ps and was unable to run Emacs... which leads me to the questions:
-
- 1) What version of GCC comes with SLS? gcc -version gave me 2.2.2 w/o a
- letter version (ie. "d").
-
- 2) I tryed to run emacs after "sysinstall"ing it, and it complained about
- not having an X11 library in /lib. When did Emacs start to need an X11
- library? Just curious since I don't have X on any of the UN*X boxes I
- work with (yet) and I do have Emacs.
-
- 3) Is SLS going to be upgraded to include the most current revisions of the
- compiler and libs + other stuff? (No hurry, system works fine for me now)
-
- Using a "sysinstall" type utility is a very good idea I feel. I've
- managed UN*X (don't want AT&T to sue me...) systems before and it's nice
- to have "control" over the packages you've added... even if it isn't as
- fun.. :-) Thanks for any help, and sorry to take up bandwidth if these are
- too easliy answered.
