- I have uploaded the following to sunsite.unc.edu, /pub/linux/Incoming:
- linux-0.97.patch4.Z
- ps097p4.tar.Z
-
- The first file is a uudecoded version of the patch Linux posted a few
- hours ago.
-
- The second file is both source and binary of ps, free, top, w, etc.
- I'm suspicious of several things about ps and free. First, I don't
- understand why ps is able to get the command lines. I thought Linux
- said that it was no longer in kernel memory. I haven't changed that
- code. Second, I haven't bothered trying to decode the new swap
- structure. My system never swaps, so I would't be able to test it.
- This version just claims that is no swapping. Thus this version needs
- more work, but provides a starting point.
-
- I've seen some complaints in the past that ps097p<N> didn't work with
- kernel 0.97pl<N+1>. Unfortunately Linus seems to be changing kernel
- data structures rapidly enough that ps and free break at every patch.
- I think patch 4 is an exception. Presumably this version will also
- work for patch 3. (However I see no reason why anyone would not use
- patch 4.) So if you see a patch 5, don't be surprised if this version
- of ps fails.
