  10. I have uploaded the following to sunsite.unc.edu, /pub/linux/Incoming:

  14. The first file is a uudecoded version of the patch Linux posted a few
  15. hours ago.

  17. The second file is both source and binary of ps, free, top, w, etc.
  18. I'm suspicious of several things about ps and free.  First, I don't
  19. understand why ps is able to get the command lines.  I thought Linux
  20. said that it was no longer in kernel memory.  I haven't changed that
  21. code.  Second, I haven't bothered trying to decode the new swap
  22. structure.  My system never swaps, so I would't be able to test it.
  23. This version just claims that is no swapping.  Thus this version needs
  24. more work, but provides a starting point.

  26. I've seen some complaints in the past that ps097p<N> didn't work with
  27. kernel 0.97pl<N+1>.  Unfortunately Linus seems to be changing kernel
  28. data structures rapidly enough that ps and free break at every patch.
  29. I think patch 4 is an exception.  Presumably this version will also
  30. work for patch 3.  (However I see no reason why anyone would not use
  31. patch 4.)  So if you see a patch 5, don't be surprised if this version
  32. of ps fails.
