- Hello *,
-
- Two days ago I got my Coherent 4.0.1 update
- (directly shipped from MWC to Germany).
-
- Unfortunately I ran into some problems:
-
- The update proceeded flawlessly after I did the 'info' stuff as I read in
- postings before. But I discovered the following strange things with
- the now running 4.0.1 SW.
-
- - If I use the new cron principle, the cron multiplies itself by eight
- each five minutes. This (of course) crashed my system after some time.
- I guess there is a problem between atrun and cron.
- Fumbling around I wasted about one day with permanent try+reboot+crash.
- Now I'm (angry & frustrated) back at the old cron
- principle (/usr/lib/crontab).
-
- - Sometimes 'reboot' fails. Some characters in the second line of the
- screen change - then the system hangs.
- Then I have to do a cold start.
-
- - I have four serial ports (8250A). Sometimes com2 doesn't get recognized
- at boot, resulting in an init complaint and a hanging system.
-
- - I get the well known prepare_gift warning but the system boots.
- I also got the mysterious 'c' in the upper right corner.
- Is that OK, or is there a major problem lurking for me?
-
- - I customized the /etc/rc and recognized that starting of background jobs
- fails, e.g:
- /usr/lcd/lcdinit& fails, but
- /usr/lcd/lcdinit runs fine.
- This is strange because
- /etc/update&
- of the original rc works fine.
- I inserted my additions before the last line of the original rc.
-
- - The delete-key has no autorepeat.
-
- My system: 486/33 with cache enabled, AMI-BIOS, C&T-chips,
- 80 MB IDE-drive, 4MB RAM, VGA.
-
- Any hints are greatly appreciated !
-
- Detlef.
