  12. Two days ago I got my Coherent 4.0.1 update
  13. (directly shipped from MWC to Germany).

  15. Unfortunately I ran into some problems:

  17. The update proceeded flawlessly after I did the 'info' stuff as I read in
  18. postings before. But I discovered the following strange things with
  19. the now running 4.0.1 SW.
  20.  
  21. - If I use the new cron principle, the cron multiplies itself by eight
  22.   each five minutes. This (of course) crashed my system after some time.
  23.   I guess there is a problem between atrun and cron.
  24.   Fumbling around I wasted about one day with permanent try+reboot+crash.
  25.   Now I'm (angry & frustrated) back at the old cron
  26.   principle (/usr/lib/crontab).

  28. - Sometimes 'reboot' fails. Some characters in the second line of the
  29.   screen change - then the system hangs.
  30.   Then I have to do a cold start.
  31.  
  32. - I have four serial ports (8250A). Sometimes com2 doesn't get recognized
  33.   at boot, resulting in an init complaint and a hanging system.

  35. - I get the well known prepare_gift warning but the system boots.
  36.   I also got the mysterious 'c' in the upper right corner.
  37.   Is that OK, or is there a major problem lurking for me?

  39. - I customized the /etc/rc and recognized that starting of background jobs
  40.   fails, e.g:
  41.     /usr/lcd/lcdinit&      fails, but
  42.     /usr/lcd/lcdinit       runs fine.
  43.   This is strange because
  44.     /etc/update&
  45.   of the original rc works fine.
  46.   I inserted my additions before the last line of the original rc.
  47.  
  48. - The delete-key has no autorepeat.
  49.  
  50. My system: 486/33 with cache enabled, AMI-BIOS, C&T-chips,
  51. 80 MB IDE-drive, 4MB RAM, VGA.
