  23. True, though that contributed to the slowness of the recovery,
  24. as did *most* of the economic meddling that the Democrats and Republicans did.
  25. What annoys me most about the change from the gold standard isn't just
  26. the government saying "We're not going to give you gold for Federal
  27. Reserve notes any more, but trust us anyway" - that only ripped off
  28. people who used government-issue money - but they made it illegal for
  29. anyone to compete with them by continuing to use real gold money,
  30. and forced people to accept this new counterfeit paper instead of
  31. still-legal silver.
