- What annoys me most about the change from the gold standard isn't just
- the government saying "We're not going to give you gold for Federal
- Reserve notes any more, but trust us anyway" - that only ripped off
- people who used government-issue money - but they made it illegal for
- anyone to compete with them by continuing to use real gold money,
- and forced people to accept this new counterfeit paper instead of
- still-legal silver.
