- Subject: September Meeting Announcement
-
- The September Meeting of DCSIGAda will be held on WEDNESDAY, September 16.
- Details are as follows:
-
- Refreshments: 7:00 pm
- Meeting: 7:30 pm
- Location: McLean Hilton
- 7920 Jones Branch Road
- Topic: Ada 9X and OOP
- Speaker: Brad Balfour
-
- A discussion on how Object Oriented Programming issues are addressed in Ada 9X
-
- Ada 9X is the ongoing effort to revise the Ada language. Currently,
- the Ada 9X program is now in the revision phase, having completed the mapping
- of requirements to language solutions. Of the three major additional features
- being added to Ada (OOP, Hierarchical program libraries, Protected types)
- certainly OOP is one of the most requested.
-
- This talk will describe how OOP is being implemented in Ada 9X. Specific new
- Ada 9X terminology will be introduced and related to basic OOP concepts. Small
- examples will be used to illustrate the concepts. One complete example using
- Ada 9X OOP will be presented.
-
- The emphasis in the talk will be on the way OOP concepts are treated in Ada
- 9X. Basic familiarity with OOP concepts is assumed, however, no familiarity
- with Ada 9X or its specific features is assumed. This talk is an abbreviated
- version of a half-day tutorial by Mark Gerhard and Brad Balfour which was
- originally presented at Ada Europe '92. Due to the limited timeframe, not
- all of the topics originally addressed in the tutorial will be addressed in
- this talk.
-
- Brad Balfour is a systems consultant with SofTech, Inc. in Alexandria. He is
- currently working in support of DISA/CIM's DoD Software Reuse Initative. On
- that project, he is working on a variety of technical and non-technical reuse
- issues including legal and acquisition issues and training. Previously he was
- heavily involved in both training and consulting in the areas of Object
- Oriented Development, Ada, Reuse and Testing. Brad was one of the three
- authors of the GRACE components, a library of 275 reusable Ada components.
- Currently he is the vice-chair of DC SIGAda and will be the program chair for
- WAdaS '92.
