- NORTH CAROLINA SUPERCOMPUTING CENTER

- The North Carolina Supercomputing Center (NCSC) is a state-supported
- Supercomputing Center and Research Institute located in the Research
- Triangle Park, North Carolina. The NCSC program is national and
- international in scope as well as impact. NCSC promotes educational and
- research activities in high-performance computing and its applications in
- science, engineering and other disciplines. The Center works in close
- collaboration with universities and industry to engance the economic
- development of North Carolina and to support the national high-performance
- computing initiative.

- NCSC's computational environment includes a Cray Y-MP, running UNICOS,
- which began operation September 1989. The Center is accessible at high band
- width (T1/T3) by means of North Carolina's existing data communications network
- and is connected to the appropriate national networks.

- MANAGER, SCIENTIFIC SUPPORT (#455)

- This person will manage the activities and staff of the Scientific Support
- Group in support of research collaborations, user consulting, computer
- applications programs, training, visualization, industrial/academic outreach
- programs and testing of new software. Facilitate and participate in research
- collaboration with industrial and academic researchers. Identifies and
- recommends objective and scope of technical projects and communicates goals,
- scope, approach and schedules to assigned technical personnel. Manages
- technical organization to ensure progress according to technical objectives,
- within budgetary and scheduling guidelines. On-call and off-hour duties
- may be required for user assistance.

- Position requires a bachelor's degree in Mathematical Sciences, Physical
- Sciences or Engineering, or equivalent experience, including two years
- technical supervision experience. Advanced degree in one of the above areas
- and supercomputing experience preferred.
