  23.                 NORTH CAROLINA SUPERCOMPUTING CENTER

  26. The North Carolina Supercomputing Center (NCSC) is a state-supported
  27. Supercomputing Center and Research Institute located in the Research
  28. Triangle Park, North Carolina.  The NCSC program is national and
  29. international in scope as well as impact.  NCSC promotes educational and
  30. research activities in high-performance computing and its applications in
  31. science, engineering and other disciplines.  The Center works in close 
  32. collaboration with universities and industry to engance the economic 
  33. development of North Carolina and to support the national high-performance
  34. computing initiative.

  36. NCSC's computational environment includes a Cray Y-MP, running UNICOS,
  37. which began operation September 1989.  The Center is accessible at high band
  38. width (T1/T3) by means of North Carolina's existing data communications network
  39. and is connected to the appropriate national networks.

  43.              MANAGER, SCIENTIFIC SUPPORT (#455)

  45. This person will manage the activities and staff of the Scientific Support
  46. Group in support of research collaborations, user consulting, computer
  47. applications programs, training, visualization, industrial/academic outreach
  48. programs and testing of new software.  Facilitate and participate in research
  49. collaboration with industrial and academic researchers.  Identifies and
  50. recommends objective and scope of technical projects and communicates goals,
  51. scope, approach and schedules to assigned technical personnel.  Manages
  52. technical organization to ensure progress according to technical objectives,
  53. within budgetary and scheduling guidelines. On-call and off-hour duties
  54. may be required for user assistance.

  56. Position requires a bachelor's degree in Mathematical Sciences, Physical
  57. Sciences or Engineering, or equivalent experience, including two years
  58. technical supervision experience.  Advanced degree in one of the above areas
  59. and supercomputing experience preferred.
