  28. there are 3 dos news/mail/uucp packages.  
  29. you missed the most-used (and IMHO best) one - 'Waffle'.

  31. uupc/extended is a nice mail environment.  snews is a nice newsreader
  32. for dos.  The two combined work fine.

  34. fsuucp IMHO has always been too buggy for me to rely on.
  35. it's darn pretty, and seems maybe a little faster, but
  36. my experience with it has been that it has promise, but isn't
  37. reliable enough for me.

  39. waffle has the best news<-->mail gatewaying features I've ever seen
  40. including *nix.  It's news/mail/uucp features just plain work...
  41. I will agree that it has a different look-and-feel, though that's no
  42. doubt due to the fact that it's a BBS too (the others aren't).

  44. The nicest thing about waffle is that you get the same look-and-feel
  45. on the local PC as you can get by dialing into it from elsewhere...
  46. you can read news on your home system (!) the same way you read at home.

  48. I hooked snews into Waffle (!) and got a nice threaded newsreader 
  49. that uses Waffle's lean-and-mean batching mechanism rather than the
  50. uupc/snews somewhat kludgy one...so I got Waffle reliability with
  51. snews threads...works great.

  53. waffle's in mirrors/msdos/waffle/waf165.zip on simtel20 mirrors.
  54. fsuucp and uupc/extended are in mirrors/msdos/uucp as I recall.
