- I am running a V.32" BBS and a FAX on the same line. I just ensured that
- the V.32" modem disconnects the FAX from the line, while off hook. Then
- I configured both fax and modem to answer at the same ring-signal count.
- The modem was configured for a short connection timeout (about 15 seconds),
- so if the modem fails to connect within 15 seconds, it will go on hook,
- and thus pass through the line to the FAX machine. The FAX machine has
- been trying to connect for 15 seconds already (without having the line)
- but now, gets control of the line, and continues to try to connect with
- a fax for quite some time.
-
- I haven't experienced any problems with this arrangement. I had to configure
- the modem with a special answer sequence to avoid it to confuse the fax
- machine in the other end.
-
- I don't know how to do if you ONLY have a fax-modem.
