  32. We have a similar set up, only we mount /usr/mail from a sun sparc-2.
  33. Thing ran fine for about 2 weeks, then we started to get the 
  34. "lock not createable after 10 tries" message.  Now the only 
  35. response (or non response) we get is a hung process.  It seems to be
  36. a problem with the lock file.  When the process is hung if we kill the
  37. lock deamon on the local machine, the process comes back.  You can not
  38. kill the process until the lockd is killed.
  39. (of course this is a feature on hpux as you can't get a signal to a process
  40. that is blocked on I/O :-)

  49. for now we have replaced mail and mailx with shell scripts telling people
  50. to use elm.  (what a kludge!  yech!)

  54. The oddest part is that it worked for weeks and the slowly stopped working.
