- YES!
-
- Is the current standard the answer? I don't know.
-
- Having to deal with several versions of Modula-2 compilers on different
- systems and trying to maintain code that will compile with any of them
- is a real pain. PIM is NOT enough.
-
- We went so far as to write our own system-independent modules to do what
- some of the existing library modules do. But the existing ones are
- different or incomplete between systems and therefore unusable.
-
- A good, solid standard with a usable set of I/O libraries would be a big
- step forward. I don't like the look of the new standard's I/O libraries.
- They look WAY too complex.
-
- Unfortunately, it is probably too late. Modula-2 was mostly passed over
- for C++ around here. And lack of a standard was one of the concerns that
- killed it. I am sure many other projects have seen the same thing.
