- 1993 ACM SIGGRAPH Nominating Committee Report
-
- Notification of Slate to ACM SIGGRAPH Membership
-
- The ACM SIGGRAPH nominating committee has selected a slate of six
- candidates to run for three positions on the ACM SIGGRAPH executive
- committee: chair, vice chair and treasurer. An executive committee
- member serves two years, with the possibility of being nominated for a
- second two-year term. Winners take office on July 1, 1993.
-
- Ideally, the ACM SIGGRAPH executive committee must represent
- and balance the broad spectrum of interests characteristic of
- ACM SIGGRAPH. With this in mind, the nominating committee on behalf
- of the membership has selected candidates representing the varied
- constituencies within ACM SIGGRAPH. The candidates selected by the
- nominating committee are the following.
-
- Chair Raymond L. Elliott
- Los Alamos National Laboratory
-
- Chair Mary C. Whitton
- Sun Microsystems, Inc.
-
- Vice Chair Copper Giloth
- University of Massachusetts at Amherst
-
- Vice Chair Sylvie Rueff
- Comprehensive Arts Network
-
- Treasurer Christopher L. Herot
- Lotus Development Corporation
-
- Treasurer Steven M. Van Frank
- Lynxsys, Inc.
-
- Each nominee has agreed to commit a minimum of one or two days per
- month to fulfilling the duties of an ACM SIGGRAPH executive committee
- member in addition to the time required to attend the four regularly
- scheduled executive committee meetings each year. This commitment has
- been formally acknowledged to the nominating committee.
-
- The nominating committee wishes to stress the importance of
- all ACM SIGGRAPH members voting in the 1993 election. The election
- is a poll of ideas and directions as well as a selection of three
- individuals. Therefore we hope that all members take the time to
- study the candidates and their opinions on the issues.
-
- Candidacy statements, biographical information and photographs of
- each nominee will be printed in the January, 1993 ACM SIGGRAPH
- newsletter that will accompany the mailing of ballots so that the
- membership can become better acquainted with the nominees and their
- qualifications. Each nominee will be asked to discuss important issues
- currently facing ACM SIGGRAPH and to comment on how his or her
- experience and qualifications relate to addressing those issues.
-
- In accordance with the ACM SIGGRAPH Bylaws, additional candidates for
- any executive committee position may be nominated by petition. A
- notice of intent to nominate by petition must be received at ACM
- headquarters no later than December 1, 1992 and should be addressed to
- Pat Ryan with copies to the ACM SIGGRAPH Area Director (Sig Treu)
- and the ACM SIGGRAPH Director of Communications (Alyce Kaprow).
- Pat Ryan may be contacted directly for further information regarding
- the nomination process, or any other aspect of the election procedures,
- at the following address.

-
- Petitions with signatures of one percent of the ACM SIGGRAPH
- membership (approximately 120 signatures) and the consent of the
- nominee must be received at ACM headquarters no later than December
- 15, 1992. All nominees must be voting members of both ACM and
- SIGGRAPH.
-
- Petition candidates will be asked to submit photographs,
- biographical information and candidacy statements in the same
- format as those of the candidates selected by the nominating
- committee. These materials must be received by the chair of the
- nominating committee no later than December 15, 1992.
-
- Members may expect their official ballots to arrive by mail with
- the January, 1993 issue of the newsletter. All ballots must be
- received at ACM headquarters no later than June 15, 1993 (the exact
- date will be specified on the ballot). Ballots received after that
- date will not be counted.
-
- All members of ACM SIGGRAPH are eligible to vote.
-
- The 1993 ACM SIGGRAPH nominating committee consists of the ACM
- SIGGRAPH past chair (Kellogg Booth), who chairs the nominating
- committee, and two members of ACM SIGGRAPH appointed by the past chair
- (Thomas DeFanti and Andrew Goodrich).
