  14. We have a VMS VAX that our students use.  Currently, our students have a
  15. separate login for each class.  These accounts have mechanically generated
  16. names.  These accounts are automatically destroyed after the end of the
  17. semester.  We are looking for a better way.  Ideally, we would like to have
  18. permanent accounts for students.
  19.  
  20. The ideal scheme will meet the following criteria:
  21. * Each student needs an area to work that is visible to the teacher
  22. * Each class needs an area the teacher can use to share files with students
  23. * Privacy needs to be maintained to the greatest extent possible for the
  24.   student's files
  25. * A student may be simultaneously taking multiple classes
  26. * A teacher may be simultaneously be teaching multiple classes.
  27. * A class may have multiple teachers.
  28. * Multiple sections of a class may need to be kept separate
  29. * Multiple sections of a class may need to be combined
  30. * It should be possible to easily send mail to all students in a class.
  31. * The scheme should be extensible university wide.

  33. If you have set up a system for creating accounts that meet many of these
  34. criteria, I would be very interested in receiving a description of how your
  35. system works, and an indication of your (and your users') general satisfaction
  36. with the scheme.
