  12. not being sure whether this is the right newsgroup I'll try my luck: 
  13. I am an assistant at the University of Basel who's job for the next two 
  14. semesters is (among other things) to care about the practical studies connected
  15. to the lecture: "Introduction to computer science". My professor has the
  16. intention, not to start with a 'concrete programming language' (as it was done
  17. with Pascal for several years) and pinning the students down to a concrete
  18. syntax, but first of all to demonstrate different aspects of computer science
  19. and the paradigms like condition, loop, recursion, function etc. in a more
  20. motivating way -- for most of the students are not future computer scientists
  21. but biologists, chemists, physicists -- and only then (after about 5 or 6
  22. weeks) start with teaching concrete programming.

  24. In the practical studies this motivating part shall be done with Hypercard
  25. (eventually using a little bit of Hypertalk) and because I'm not (already ...)
  26. a Hypercard specialist, I'd be very glad if someone with more experience could
  27. give me any suggestions about Hypercard and motivating people. 
  28. If there already exist some stacks treating the concepts of computer science
  29. I'd be very interested too of course!
