  15. Greetings.  This message is to announce the formation of the Internet
  16. AUDIOTEX mailing list.
  17.  
  18. The AUDIOTEX list is an Internet discussion forum for topic areas
  19. relating to the field of "audiotex" systems.  "Audiotex" is a general
  20. term covering the broad area of telephone-based information systems of
  21. a wide variety of types.  The distinguishing characteristic of an
  22. audiotex system is usually the use of either recorded or synthesized
  23. voice to output information to the user, with either telephone
  24. touch-tone keys or in some cases voice recognition systems being used
  25. for input.  Voicemail systems, information collection/retrieval
  26. systems, and entertainment services are all examples of audiotex
  27. applications.

  29. All aspects of audiotex systems, including currently deployed systems,
  30. research and development issues, user interface design, applications
  31. concepts, security considerations, etc. are valid topics for
  32. discussion in this mailing list.

  34. At the current time, the AUDIOTEX mailing list is a direct
  35. distribution, non-moderated list with very little traffic.  If traffic
  36. becomes considerable the list will probably be converted to a digest
  37. format.

  39. Subscriptions to the AUDIOTEX mailing list are controlled by an
  40. automated "listserv" system.  To get more information about the
