- I'm helping out the systems department at an engineering division of a
- large London transport company. There are several remote sites that
- deliver fault-logging information to us. We'd like to set up a server -
- BBS or otherwise - to accept modem dial-ins from these sites; each site
- would upload a data file to a particular subdirectory.
-
- Would a BBS setup be the way to go? If so, what is the best well-supported
- commercial software to this end? Whichever program we pick up must, at
- a minimum, be able to support 9 modem ports.
-
- Should we go with a multimodem card? Must we have 1 or more 16550A's
- on the motherboard, or a separate serial controller?
-
- The machine used will be a 486, running MS-DOS 5.0, under Novell
- 3.11; there will be 30+ local users in a TCP/IP network.
-
- My thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me. If possible, please
- cc: to my private email address, as my newsreader is new, and not very
- robust.
