- Would someone kindly e-mail me a one-line definition of v.32, v.32bis,
- v.42, v.42bis, mnp-5, mnp-10 ? Last time I looked, state of the art was a
- 2400baud Hayes modem. Boy have things changed. My guess is:
-
- v.32 -- 9600 baud modem
- v.32bis -- v.32 modem with data compression, up to 4 times the actual data
- rate
- v.42 -- 14.4k modem
- v.42bis -- see v.32bis
- mnp-5 -- data compression algorithm providing 2 times actual data rate
- mnp-10 -- ???
-
- What other acronyms do I need to talk intelligently about modems?
-
- THANKS!
