  21. I have a modem (Digicom Scout Plus) with all the trimmings (V.32bis, V.42,
  22. V.42bis, ...) too and I still get some errors during Zmodem downloads.

  24. Even on pure local connections I regularly get CRC errors, timeouts 
  25. or bad subpacket errors every other second so that the data rate on 
  26. downloads seldom climbs over 900 cps at 14400 EC, often 700..800 cps. 
  27. The line dont seem noisy, signal strength shows -27...-24 dBm and 
  28. signal quality shows mostly 7 or 6 on a scale of 0...7 (nice feature 
  29. on the Scout Plus).

  31. That means most file transfers need about twice the time to download, 
  32. a factor of 3 is no great improvement over my earlier 2400 (no EC) modem 
  33. when I hoped for a 6 fold improvement.

  35. Or can that be a weakness of my datacom software (Telix 3.12)?

  37. Or the missing 16550? (DTE rate 57600 or 38400, 12 MHz Compaq 286).
