- A DosFax cover page (appended) takes 34 seconds to transmit locally and
- 36 seconds to transmit from California to Japan using 100x200 standard
- resolution with a Digicom Scout+ modem. The file has a length of 1511
- bytes when stored in ASCII. So the throughput is 42 cps. The total time
- off-hook was 40 seconds for the local call and 44 seconds for the
- trans-Pacific call.
-
- Although the data rate is low, for small textfiles, which need to be
- read only, it may still be advantageous since the V.32bis negotiation,
- the logon procedure and then the file transfer in data mode at maybe
- 1000 cps may still take about the same total time.

- Dear Dave,
-
- this is a little test of DosFax Lite and a Digicom Scout+ modem across the
- Pacific. Its quite interesting that the lower speed fax protocols like
- V.27ter require only a very small signal to noise ratio compared to data
- protocols at the same speed. So I intend to test faxing to locations where
- I have known data problems and see if faxing will alleviate communication
- problems in these cases.
- I figured you have a credit of xxxxx for the difference of xx times xxxxx
- for shipping you paid, to the actual shipping charge of about xxxxxx. Let
- me know if this is agreeable to you. (The USD sign can not be used on
- DosFax cover pages).
-
- I also am now set up to accept credit cards (VISA and Mastercard) for an
- additional 3%.
-
- The site ftp.rahul.net /pub/wolfgang will mirror all files available on
- the Digicom BBS mainly for the convenience of international customers.
- Also my various info and pricing files are available there. I am thinking
- of also including some user reports like your latest Scout report, if you
- agree.
