- Perhaps. Modem error control only corrects errors that occur
- between the modems. It can't help data loss or corruption that
- occurs between your modem and your computer. Such problems can
- happen if flow control is not set properly, or if your
- microprocessor or software can't keep up with the flow of incoming
- data (can't process interrupts fast enough). The solution to the
- first problem is, of course, to make sure the flow control settings
- are matched between the software and modem, and, if you're using
- hardware flow control, to make sure your cable is properly wired.
- The solution to the second problem is to upgrade your comm port
- hardware to a device with more buffering -- at least to a 16550A
- UART (if the problem is minor), or to a buffered intelligent serial
- card like a Hayes ESP (with automatic flow control) is the problem
- is severe.
