  22. Perhaps.  Modem error control only corrects errors that occur 
  23. between the modems. It can't help data loss or corruption that 
  24. occurs between your modem and your computer. Such problems can 
  25. happen if flow control is not set properly, or if your 
  26. microprocessor or software can't keep up with the flow of incoming 
  27. data (can't process interrupts fast enough).  The solution to the 
  28. first problem is, of course, to make sure the flow control settings 
  29. are matched between the software and modem, and, if you're using 
  30. hardware flow control, to make sure your cable is properly wired.  
  31. The solution to the second problem is to upgrade your comm port 
  32. hardware to a device with more buffering -- at least to a 16550A 
  33. UART (if the problem is minor), or to a buffered intelligent serial 
  34. card like a Hayes ESP (with automatic flow control) is the problem 
  35. is severe.
