- Has anyone out there had any experience with Supras on a BBS or
- a large dial in operation. We are considering installing around 25 to 30 of
- them for our University Campus dial in service. They seem to be fairly
- resonably priced and we have done a trial run with 6 of them on the front
- end of our dial in rotary. One of the bugs we experienced may have been
- addressed with the new roms Supra just recently announced. This was the
- bug with them locking up. The CD state would just display continuously
- on the led display and they would then not answer the phone. The only
- way to clear this was to power cycle the modem. Another problem we
- encountered was with them displaying garbage after some number of connections.
- This condition seemed to be cleared either by power cycling the modem or
- simply talking to it on its serial side without first making an incoming
- connection When I asked Surpa about this they said no one else had
- experienced this. Also, every since I turned echo off with an ate0 I haven't
- seen the problem reoccur. Note I haven't asked about fax. For our use
- it is just not that important.
-
- Just for your information the modems are connected at 38400 to
- a Cisco Systems terminal server and we rely on the modem to flow control
- the Cisco to handle any speed mismatch. Except for the couple of problems
- mentioned above the trial 6 have been working fairly well for about a
- month now.
-
- Any comment would be appreciated.

- Thanks,
-
