  14.     I am working on a data compression project and trying to get some info.
  15. about the V42bis modem. I am really a stranger in the modems world. If you
  16. could , please send me an email. I'll appreciate what you do for me. The 
  17. following is a list of questions I want to know:

  19.     (1) How the V42bis modem works and where the best place to put it;
  20.     (2) Where I can get/buy the V42bis modem, both software and hardware;
  21.     (3) What compression ration I can get by using V42bis modem to transmit
  22.         a binary file (or a text file);
  23.     (4) How much the V42bis modem will cost;
