- I recently installed a new I/O card with what I that was a 16550 UART on it.
- It is a Texas Instruments chip and along with the TI logo printed on it, it is
- labelled as a 16550. I am using the com port and it seems to be ok. My
- confusion arose after I ran a couple of software programs (one shareware and
- the other under PCTools System Information utility) that are supposed to tell
- you what kind of UART chip you have. PCTools told me I have a 16450 and the
- other program simply reported that a 16550 was not found. Does anyone know why
- this might have happened? Is there more than one kind of 16550? Most of the
- information about this chip seems to refer to the NS16550AFN, is there anything
- to this?
-
- Thanks in advance for any insights, David.
