- Modems are a complete rip-off in Europe. Even the 'cheapest' v32bis,
- Twincom, is 300pounds (ex tax 17.5%) - $600. Precisely double the
- cost in the US. I've just been looking through PCW for an advert
- I saw the other day for one of the bigger names - it was something
- like 450 pounds. Unbelievable.
-
- So import from the US. With the dollar as low as it is just now,
- buy a handful of modems, keep one for spares and sell the rest
- to your friends at 20% profit - it'll pay for your postage etc,
- everyone will be happy, and you'll still be much cheaper than
- buying one in Europe.
-
- Wonder how long it'll be before customer pressure drives prices down?
- Never, I guess, unless computing magazines expose this greed which
- they'll never do because they need the advertising :-(
