-
- I'll second that. While I like the modem, I hate the book that came
- with it.

- Sure, Wolfgang, but there is an awful lot that is NOT there (not
- the commands, they are all there, but descriptions of behaviour
- under certain circumstances).
-
- For example, I had to determine by experiment what happens when you
- disable speed conversion. With speed conversion disabled, it still
- does speed conversion under certain (sensible) circumstances. But
- neither the book, the sticker, nor the on-line 'help' tells you this.
- It works well, and in fact does just what I want, but it took me several
- hours to determine this!
-
- Then there is the question of what the LED's mean. They are listed in
- the book, but it never tells you specifically what each one means. For
- example, the MR let means modem ready. But I had to ask Wolfgang to find
- out that a flashing MR led means error correction is happening (although
- I am not convinced that is all it means). There is information in the book
- repeated in different sections, in slightly different ways.
-
- OF the modem manuals I have seen, the best was with a Zoom 2400 baud faxmodem.
- The manual didn't say Zoom, so it may have been a Rockwell publication for
- OEM's to copy, but it was clear, concise and complete. Even had the fax commands.
