- My 2400 modem died over the summer (lightning), and I'd like to
- upgrade to 9600 while I'm already replacing it. What I don't want to
- do is pay for an expensive modem. I see that 9600 fax-modems vary
- considerably in price. What's wrong with the cheaper ones? Will they
- still be about 4 times as fast as my 2400?
-
- I seem to recall reading that there are two ``standard'' protoc}ls at
- 9600. Is this true? Is one more widespread than the other?
-
- I don't often read this group, so an e-mail answer would be greatly
- appreciated. (Also, I looked for a FAQ but couldn't find one.
- Pointers to that would also be appreciated.)
-
- Thanks in advance.
