  26. This smells like a problem with some of the earlier Worldblazers, in which
  27. the
  28. voltages on the serial port outputs were lower than the RS-232 (or RS-422?)
  29. standard called out.  This caused the modem to exhibit all manner of
  30. strange
  31. behavior, since it didn't drive the received data line or the handshaking
  32. signals
  33. "hard" enough.

  35. (I may have this backwards--it may have been a problem in the _received_
  36. voltage
  37. levels the WorldBlazer saw.)

  39. In any case, I'd call Telebit back, tell them you may have an earlier
  40. version of
  41. the WorldBlazer that has that "RS-232 voltage problem".  Have the serial
  42. number
  43. handy, and don't give up until you talk to a tech who is aware of this
  44. problem
  45. and can check your serial number (the problem was fixed past a certain
  46. serial
  47. number).

  49. You might also check the voltage levels on the Mac itself.  In spite of the
  50. fact
  51. that the loopback test worked, the voltage levels might still be too low
  52. for the
  53. WorldBlazer to "see", although the Mac saw them OK.
