- Yes, you can cascade an inexpensive 10BASET hub to your wiring hub. Your
- two computers can connect to the inexpensive 10BASET hub. Please take note
- of the following:-
-
- There is a limit to the number of repeaters between between any target
- nodes that your two computers intends to communicate with (all within the
- same physical segment, i.e. does not transverse a bridge/router). The limit
- is 4 repeaters but if you go past a bridge/router, that count is reset to
- zero.
-
- With regards to "inexpensive", you can go for those "purely" hardwarish
- 10BASET repeaters that does not have SNMP capability. You may find 10BASET
- hubs will give you more ports than you can use.
-
-
- If you were using thinnet or ThinLAN (10BASE2) cards on your computer, then
- you can form a short thinnet or ThinLAN segment between your two computers
- and a ThinLAN to 10BASET transceiver. The 10BASET port of the ThinLAN to
- 10BASET transceiver can connect to your 10BASET outlet.
