- [uu]getty is a login sort of thing though. My uugetty (IRIX] has two scripts,
- one to prepare the modem, and the other when it chatters. So I listen for RING,
- type ATA, etc, because I can.

- I could perhaps extend this to type ATA, then switch on CONNECT or +FCON (or
- however it works) to run either login or some fax daemon.

- I seem to remember that some uucico programs (not mine) have a daemon mode,
- where they 'own' a port, and handle all transactions including picking up the
- phone. I presume this is for systems that don't have smart uugettys.

- Maybe it is a variant of this that is needed - something that permanently hangs
- onto the port. Perhaps a signal could be sent to it to ask it to step aside for
- cu, or whatever.
