- Hello everybody,
-
- I have installed a single user version of dbaseIV 1.5 in a Novell
- Network version 2.0. One day when I used commands like:
- dele all for importer = 'CHI' or recall all
- the PC simply hanged ( or dot prompt reappear after 15 mins! then I use
- browse to view the result, the PC hanged again! )
- Something worth to be mentioned are that:
- The db file contain 17000 records only ( easy job for dbase )
- The command work well in dbaseIII+ running on the same network,
- working on the same database.
- I have set the time out config of the Netware to max, i.e. in
- SHELL.CFG, there are:
- ipx timeout=40960
- ipx retry = 1000
- Some times before, I ever encountered a problem that indexing on a
- database of 700 records will create Network error, after setting the
- about config, the problem was fixed. But this time, it doesn't work.
- I also have a Clipper program that having problems with the network:
- The print out can't be routed to a network printer (Network error mesag
- appear), but can only be routed to a local printer. I have ever fixed
- this problem by using the above SHELL.CFG, but once the database getting
- bigger (265 records only!), the problem appear again.
-
- A software dealer tell me that dbaseIV doesn't work well on Network,
- he suggest me to use JEN-BMS, a very expensive software written in C.
-
- Sum up the symptoms above, could any one kindly enough to tell me
- that what's the most probable problem? Is my Novell Netware Version too
- old? Or I should get a multi-user verion of dbaseIV (the problem appear
- when there is on;y one guy using the single version dbaseIV)?
-
- One more problem: every time after boot up dbaseIV on the network,
- I have to move a 'underscore' by the mouse to some 'border' of the
- control panel screen in order to get it become a 'solid cursor',
- otherwise, after I entered the dot prompt, no cursor will be shown.
- Anybody know why?
-
-
- Any tiny suggestion is appreciated and urgently required.
-
- Best Regards.
