  21. Mbox looks more like a "traditional" PC-based bbs than Waffle, so
  22. there should be less steep learning curve for a number of people. Mbox
  23. uses smail and C-News to transfer messages, has interface for external
  24. chat program and games.  Mbox was primarily developed for 386-Minix,
  25. but compiling it to run under SCO 386 Xenix was not too hard. In the
  26. Makefile Mbox has options to compile under ISC, so I think it could
  27. work right away.

  44. Version 1.8 is the code that is currently running on the Mars Hotel
  45. BBS.  (Nov 25, 1991) This code does not install completely.  If you
  46. would like to install this software I would suggest that you get
  47. bbs.1.6 and install it.  Then get this version of the bbs code and do
  48. a 'make install'.  Move all the binaries over to the bbs's bin
  49. directory and you will be running version 1.8.  WARNING, version 1.8
  50. does not have a file structure compatable with 1.6.  Any posts made in
  51. version 1.6 will be corrupted after the upgrade.

  53. This version also supports IRC chat.  The source for the client and
  54. the server are in the irc2.5.1 directory.  I would suggest you use the
  55. client from this directory since commands that could present security
  56. holes have been eliminated from this code.

  180. ABOUT CONFIGURABILITY
  181.  
  182. Waffle is extremely configurable. All the menus are configurable;
  183. it is very easy to add commands, either as externals or as
  184. files displayed when a "magic word" is typed. The signup questionaire
  185. may be altered. Certain features (such as COOKIE, FILES, etc) may
  186. be disabled.
  187.  
  188. There are *LOTS* of things we haven't mentioned. In fact there is
  189. approximately 400k of documentation available, so we have barely even
  190. scratched the surface.
  191.  
  192. Both DOS and Unix versions appear identical to the online user. Thus
  193. even if you are mainly interested in the Unix version, we strongly
  194. suggest obtaining a copy of the current version of Waffle to inspect
  195. the documentation (Unix documentation is included with the DOS
  196. version). This will give you a clearer overview than this silly note.
