- Could someone email me the top 3 or 4 realtime internet

- NetGuide has information on the following systems:

- File: computer, Node: Mbox, Up: BBSs
-
- Mbox bulletin board system.
-
- Mbox looks more like a "traditional" PC-based bbs than Waffle, so
- there should be less steep learning curve for a number of people. Mbox
- uses smail and C-News to transfer messages, has interface for external
- chat program and games. Mbox was primarily developed for 386-Minix,
- but compiling it to run under SCO 386 Xenix was not too hard. In the
- Makefile Mbox has options to compile under ISC, so I think it could
- work right away.

- The 'pirate' BBS for Unix systems.
-
- The pirate source code can be obtained via anonymous ftp from:
-
- athena.erc.msstate.edu:/pub/bbs1.6.tar.Z
- athena.erc.msstate.edu:/pub/bbs1.8.tar.Z
-
- Version 1.8 is the code that is currently running on the Mars Hotel
- BBS. (Nov 25, 1991) This code does not install completely. If you
- would like to install this software I would suggest that you get
- bbs.1.6 and install it. Then get this version of the bbs code and do
- a 'make install'. Move all the binaries over to the bbs's bin
- directory and you will be running version 1.8. WARNING, version 1.8
- does not have a file structure compatable with 1.6. Any posts made in
- version 1.6 will be corrupted after the upgrade.
-
- This version also supports IRC chat. The source for the client and
- the server are in the irc2.5.1 directory. I would suggest you use the
- client from this directory since commands that could present security
- holes have been eliminated from this code.

- SUPPORT AVAILABLE
-
- Support is available by sending mail to root@vox.darkside.com. We will
- make an honest effort to answer whatever questions you have. If you don't
- have net access, we can probably arrange something, or you can call the
- BBS listed here and leave FEEDBACK.
-
- We are always interested in questions, comments, complaints, suggestions,
- ranting and raving, and general feedback.
-
- There is no charge for support, so long as you are nice about it.
-
- ABOUT CONFIGURABILITY
-
- Waffle is extremely configurable. All the menus are configurable;
- it is very easy to add commands, either as externals or as
- files displayed when a "magic word" is typed. The signup questionaire
- may be altered. Certain features (such as COOKIE, FILES, etc) may
- be disabled.
-
- There are *LOTS* of things we haven't mentioned. In fact there is
- approximately 400k of documentation available, so we have barely even
- scratched the surface.
-
- Both DOS and Unix versions appear identical to the online user. Thus
- even if you are mainly interested in the Unix version, we strongly
- suggest obtaining a copy of the current version of Waffle to inspect
- the documentation (Unix documentation is included with the DOS
- version). This will give you a clearer overview than this silly note.
