- I have a suggestion for a WWIV mod, and would like to hear from an "in the
- know" person for these sort of things...
-
- My system consists of a 286-16 with 1meg of RAM, 150meg HD, and two really
- old Hitachi CD-ROM drives. Everything is working properly and has been
- tested thoroughly. I recently tried installing WWIV 4.21 and have had a
- few concerns about how it handles its download directories. From what I
- gather, each DL sub must have a cooresponding disk drive directory. This
- is fine for my hard drive, but the CD-ROM disks are usually divided up
- into 30 or more directories. Having a sub for directory will make over 60
- DL subs for my CD-ROM drives alone! This really bites...
-
- However, I had an idea for changing the "uploadsrec" structure and the
- cooresponding support code to handle pathnames as well as filenames. This
- would supercede the path entry in the DIRS.DAT file. Now, I know this will
- make the .DIR files a bit larger, but heck, it won't be that bad! This
- little change would allow you to keep files in multiple directories and just
- change their path in the subs' .DIR file to change their position. It would
- make read-only and write-once devices much easier to use on WWIV.
-
- After perusing my friend's code, I don't think that it would be too diffi-
- cult to modify WWIV to support this since it seems pretty flexible. However,
- I'm not that familiar with the code and it's not documented very well.
- This is where I need the help. If you have any suggestions or would like to
- make the mod for me :) then please send me message at the address below!
-
- Thanks for your time!
