- ***** Prime Time Freeware 1-2 Bulletin, 920907 *****
-
- The second issue of PTF has now been shipping for four weeks. Sales are
- going like crazy (the first printing is practically sold out), but some
- annoying problems have surfaced:
-
- a2z/bin/p.get
- archive/9660_u
- a2z/docs/booklet.ps
- disc readability
- file errors
-
- a2z/bin/p.get:
-
- The p.get (package retrieval) script does not work properly on systems
- which use version numbers (;1) and/or UPPER_CASE letters in file names.
- A new version is available.
-
- a2z/docs/booklet.ps:
-
- The booklet PostScript on the discs is for Issue 1-1, and was left on
- by accident. The correct PostScript is available.
-
- archive/9660_u:
-
- The 9660_u (ISO-9660) utilities miss files in the top-level directory
- and in some large directories. A new version is available.
-
- disc readability:
-
- The PTF 1-2 discs exercise a flaw in certain (e.g., Everex, Mitsumi,
- NEC) drives. DMI has said it will solve this in the second printing,
- so the problem should not recur. If you have disc(s) that you cannot
- mount/read/etc., please contact us so that we can replace them:

-
- file errors:
-
- Some bits got munged between the tar tape and the one-off for the 1-2b
- disc. (We naively assumed we only had to make up a clean tar tape; now
- we know better...) We have fixed this in the second printing, but there
- are still around 1000 copies out there with bogus files. So:
-
- 1) We have made up some adb patches for most of the bogons.
- 2) We will be glad to swap you new discs for old, as above.
-
- Here are the 1-2b adb patches (for more detail, see below):
-
- 0.all (OK on 1-2a)
- a2z/lists/hpl.txt (OK on 1-2a)
- gnu/cygnus/solaris/1_0_bin.atz 0t1546554?w7e0a
- gnu/cygnus/vintage/911206.at (too many ...)
- usenet/comp/sources/games/volume10.at 0t2864390?wa3d9
- 0t2864458?w368
- window/i_views/3_0_1.atz 0t2705154?wb33

- ***** Obtaining PTF bug fixes, information, etc. *****
-
- Walnut Creek CD-ROM has graciously provided a PTF directory in their FTP
- archive (cdrom.com:/pub/ptf). The directory contains annotated adb hacks,
- bug fixes, text, booklet PostScript, the Hierarchical Package List for PTF
- 1-2, etc. If you do not have FTP access, or if the directory contents do
- not meet your needs, please email to:
-
- ptf@cfcl.com inquiries
- ptf-bugs@cfcl.com bug reports
- ptf-help@cfcl.com requests for assistance, updates, etc.
