  19. The 2.0 version of the binutils distribution is now available from the
  20. "usual" places (such as anonymous ftp from pub/gnu/binutils-2.0.tar.Z
  21. on prep.ai.mit.edu).

  23. This is completely re-written from the original GNU binutils
  24. distribution, and is based on a Binary File Descriptor (BFD) library
  25. that provides support for multiple object file formats as well as
  26. cross-development.  (BFD is also used by gdb and some versions of gas.) 
  27. Included in this distribution are the GNU linker, the binary utilities 
  28. (ar, ranlib, nm, objdump, size, copy, strip), and a new version of gprof.

  30. The released code was written (mostly) by Cygnus, and has been
  31. shipped to Cygnus customers.  However, it has not been extensively
  32. tested on many machines.  So treat this as any release with a
  33. version number ending with 0 - with healthy skepticism!  Also,
  34. think of this as a hacker release:  If you can't get it to work,
  35. we probably won't have time to help you, especially since I'm
  36. going on vacation right now and won't be available for 3 weeks!

  38. There are also various features missing in this release, including 
  39. ports, shared libraries, missing options; volunteers willing to
  40. tackle these projects would be most welcome.  (See the files
