- Michael,
-
- Your explanation is correct, sort of. If you type plain text in a
- "NeXT Mail" document, it will come across as ASCII text okay with one
- exception. The line lengths are often too long to fit conveniently
- on standard 80 character terminals. When you click on "Non-NeXT
- Mail", the text is converted to ASCII with approximately 72
- characters per line (I don't remember the exact number but think it
- can be changed). After writing this, I tested it to check and my
- Next Mail came across fine on my 80 character DOS terminal. I'm not
- sure exactly what's going on and have had inconsistent luck with
- sending NeXT Mail to non-NeXT users. After sending and receiving 300
- + mail messages to my boss, who was on sabattical leave in Europe
- last year, I came to the conclusion that it is easier just to hit
- "Non-NeXT Mail" each time before sending it out. After a while it
- becomes a habit and prevents a lot of confusion on the other end.
-
- I'd spend more time on this to try to figure it out, but too busy
- right now. Maybe someone else will fill you in with the *really*
- correct info, but the jist of what I said above is more or less on
- the right track. I do know that your two messages were not identical
- (as you will probably find when you read them on your NeXT, since I
- can see the difference on mine.)
