  24.      An exciting opportunity to develop a comprehensive
  25. library instruction program with an emphasis on electronic
  26. library services is available at Miami University Libraries,
  27. which serve the information needs of Miami University, a
  28. selective institution located in Oxford, Ohio, 35 miles north
  29. of Cincinnati.  In a move to develop proactive electronic
  30. instruction, a new position was created to coordinate this
  31. vital area.  The Libraries have an integrated Innovative
  32. Interfaces system in place which will be the foundation of
  33. OhioLINK, a planned statewide information system designed to
  34. link nineteen academic institutions in Ohio.

  37. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  39.      Reporting to the Assistant University Librarian for
  40. Information and Research, the User Education Coordinator
  41. will develop a comprehensive instruction plan and electronic
  42. training sessions covering such topics as how to use the
  43. Internet, LEXIS/NEXIS, and FirstSearch, as well as advanced
  44. searching techniques for SHERLOCK, Miami's online catalog.
  45. The incumbent will also be responsible for designing credit
  46. and non-credit workshops and for developing a credit course
  47. in information use.  The librarian will work closely with
  48. all staff in a mutually beneficial manner for assistance and
  49. training in relevant areas.  In addition, the incumbent will
  50. work with the Library Instruction Committee to discuss trends
  51. in bibliographic instruction as well as goals for the
  52. instruction program.

  55. REQUIREMENTS:
  56.  
  57.      An ALA-accredited M.L.S. degree; broad-based knowledge
  58. of academic/research library operations and services;
  59. substantial knowledge of or experience with available
  60. electronic resources; effective training skills,
  61. demonstrated analytical, organizational, and planning
  62. skills; strong oral and written communication skills;
  63. ability to work effectively, independently, and
  64. cooperatively with all elements of a highly diverse
  65. academic community.

  67. HIGHLY DESIRABLE:

  69.      Substantial technical computer experience.

  72.      The Miami University Libraries contain over 1.5 million
  73. volumes, have an extensive collection of government documents
  74. and microforms, and subscribe to over 10,000 serials.  They
  75. serve 850 teaching and research faculty, 16,000
  76. undergraduates, and 1,000 graduate students.  The Libraries
  77. have 32 professional librarians and 55 support staff and
  78. belong to OCLC and CRL.  Benefits include Blue Cross/
