- An exciting opportunity to develop a comprehensive
- library instruction program with an emphasis on electronic
- library services is available at Miami University Libraries,
- which serve the information needs of Miami University, a
- selective institution located in Oxford, Ohio, 35 miles north
- of Cincinnati. In a move to develop proactive electronic
- instruction, a new position was created to coordinate this
- vital area. The Libraries have an integrated Innovative
- Interfaces system in place which will be the foundation of
- OhioLINK, a planned statewide information system designed to
- link nineteen academic institutions in Ohio.

- RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Reporting to the Assistant University Librarian for
- Information and Research, the User Education Coordinator
- will develop a comprehensive instruction plan and electronic
- training sessions covering such topics as how to use the
- Internet, LEXIS/NEXIS, and FirstSearch, as well as advanced
- searching techniques for SHERLOCK, Miami's online catalog.
- The incumbent will also be responsible for designing credit
- and non-credit workshops and for developing a credit course
- in information use. The librarian will work closely with
- all staff in a mutually beneficial manner for assistance and
- training in relevant areas. In addition, the incumbent will
- work with the Library Instruction Committee to discuss trends
- in bibliographic instruction as well as goals for the
- instruction program.

- REQUIREMENTS:

- An ALA-accredited M.L.S. degree; broad-based knowledge
- of academic/research library operations and services;
- substantial knowledge of or experience with available
- electronic resources; effective training skills,
- demonstrated analytical, organizational, and planning
- skills; strong oral and written communication skills;
- ability to work effectively, independently, and
- cooperatively with all elements of a highly diverse
- academic community.

- HIGHLY DESIRABLE:

- Substantial technical computer experience.

- The Miami University Libraries contain over 1.5 million
- volumes, have an extensive collection of government documents
- and microforms, and subscribe to over 10,000 serials. They
- serve 850 teaching and research faculty, 16,000
- undergraduates, and 1,000 graduate students. The Libraries
- have 32 professional librarians and 55 support staff and
- belong to OCLC and CRL. Benefits include Blue Cross/

- retirement system. Minimum salary $24,000, negotiable
