- Well it certainly is a BIG headache (right now getting an
- ACCURATE invoice is a bigger one) handling original and update
- software and documentation shipments. The key item for us has
- been a report that our branch office gets for us.
-
- The report is titled 'CUSTOMER INSTALLED PROFILE' and lists all
- the software licenses for a specific processor Model#/Serial#
- combination. For each license, the report includes program#,
- serial#, install date, and all feature codes. Since each software/
- documentation shipment shows the program#/serial# for the license
- that 'generated' that part of the shipment, I can look up the
- processor/serial# tied to that license and route the stuff to
- the appropriate group. The report is also useful for verifying
- that a license was cancelled or feature codes were indeed updated.
-
- We still have problems getting our branch office to enter accurate
- processor/serial# info, so we've had RT software licensed to one
- of our 4381's or to made-up systems (e.g., 5162/00286 or 6150/00ALL).
- They have been real good about getting RS/6000's entered correctly.
-
- You may get some resistance from your branch office since it
- reportedly is no simple task to get a complete report. They first
- have to do a query to get a list of processor/serial#'s
- for your customer number, then manually reenter them, one at a time,
- to get a software profile for that system. I bugged them about
- getting access to the info on IBMlink, but who knows when that might
- happen.
