- Not only did the Aztecs do quite well without the wheel they
- also had a population problem. One theory I heard for the hugh
- level of human sacrifice was to ensure there was enough food to
- go around. Of course it was usually captives that were sacrificed,
- but if you didn't want to let them go and you didn't want to feed them,
- why not use them to cull favor from the gods.
