  16. Below is a definition of computer literacy. Please read and make any remarks
  17. about it.  Please direct your remarks to me.  I will consider them and make
  18. changes then re-post the changes to the list.   As part of my PhD study I'm
  19. attempting to develop a common definition that is agreed upon by Teacher
  20. Educators.

  24. A DEFINITION OF COMPUTER LITERACY FOR TEACHER EDUCATION
  25.  
  26. 1.     Knowledge and skill in operating a computer using a library of generic
  27. programs as determined by requirements of each discipline.
  28.  
  29. 2.     Knowledge of various ethical and social issues, in general, and in
  30. greater depth, issues determined by requirements of each discipline, relating
  31. to computer use.
  32.  
  33. 3.     A functional level of knowledge for the use of computers as an aid to
  34. problem solving, and roles of computers as a source of problems as deemed
  35. appropriate by each discipline students study in school.
  36.  
  37. 4.     Knowledge and skills in computer programming using a high level language
  38. as deemed appropriate or not by requirements of each discipline.
