  12. We are installing our first information kiosk in a visitor center this
  13. month.  The University of Arkansas Information Kiosk is designed
  14. with Macromind Director (now Macromedia) on a Mac IIci with Rasterops
  15. STV board for NTSC video in a window; video is pressed to a videodisc and
  16. read on a Pioneer 8000 player.  We use keyboard with built-in trackball
  17. for navigating through Macromind; the kiosk is also networked to our
  18. CWIS, currently CUINFO-based but by next month it will be gopher.  So,
  19. the design is such that you click on buttons to activate video clips about
  20. certain college programs, etc., and/or you 'switch over' to the
  21. gopher interface to see current events schedule and other CWIS items.
  22. We hope to incorporate the gopher interface so that all functions are
  23. achieved through the Macromind 'movie' interface for interactivity instead
  24. of having to switch screen presentation formats as we currently do.
  25. We also hope to move away from NTSC video on laserdisc to Quicktime movies
  26. (digital) when new QT is released which will allow variable window size and
  27. near-motion video quality.
