- RE: Stagenumber pipeline command.
-
- Chuck Boeheim has argued convincingly that the stage number (which is
- also reported in error messages) should reflect the position in the
- pipeline specification also for pipelines with connectors. Currently,
- a stage after a connector has the number one more than the stage it is
- connected to. This leads to the number being useless in practice
- (except for things like console who behaves differently when they
- are first in a pipeline).
-
- It is also rather undefined what "first stage" really means when the
- pipeline specification has connectors.
-
- Use STREAMSTATE to determine if the input stream is connected if you
- wish a stage to react differently when it is first in a pipeline or
- not.
-
- This will, to say the least, cause an incompatible change. So who
- reckon they'll be bitten? Any better suggestions?
