- [ The following description of this submission indicates
- that both executable images and object files are included
- in this submission. The object files are being sent as a
- separate part (similar to a patch) so that those sites
- wishing to compile the routines themselves need not use
- the time (or expense) of downloading them. The
- executables have been removed altogether since they can
- be built locally, either by compiling and linking or
- obtaining the object files and linking. ]
-
- Zip v1.9 and UnZip v5.0 are the latest releases from the Info-ZIP
- group. Zip and UnZip are file archivers that employ compression to
- save disk space. They are compatible with PKware's PKZIP and PKUNZIP
- for MS-DOS.
-
- Zip v1.9 and UnZip v5.0 feature the long-awaited saving and restoring
- of VMS file attributes for VMS .ZIP archives!!! They also support
- "deflating" and "inflating" of files, for even greater compression
- over the "imploding/exploding" algorithm.
-
- This distribution includes the sources for Zip and UnZip, which will
- compile under VMS, UNIX, DOS, OS/2, NT, Amiga, and Atari. VMS .OBJs
- and .EXE files are included for those without a C compiler (either
- VAX C or GNU C); they are encoded using the MTFU program, also
- available from vmsnet.sources archives, ftp.spc.edu (under
- [.MACRO32]), and FILESERV@WKUVX1.BITNET (send SEND MFTU in the body
- of a mail message).
