  19. This is a request for a sanity check, no wise cracks please.  This is my/our
  20. first experience on or with Internet.  Our network number is 159.242.0.0 and
  21. our Domain is registered as BUTLER.EDU.  The following is our network as
  22. for as TCP/IP is concerned.

  24. (note, these nodes are part of a 99% homogeneous cluster)

  32. At the moment there are ony two real hosts, OVID.BUTLER.EDU and RUTH.BUTLER.EDU.
  33. I orginally set us up to use another node as a nameserver.  The condition was
  34. that this only be the case until September 1, so I just set domain-nameservers
  35. in the Multinet Config utility to their IP address so we could get to the rest
  36. of the net even though folks could not get back to us without using IP numbers.

  38. I had made the mistake (TGV's tech support pointed this out to me) of thinking
  39. that the IP-Cluster-Aliases would be a clean way to seperate functions of our
  40. domain.  I had in mind seperating out functions by doing this kind of thing:

  42. names.butler.edu   159.242.1.3    our domain nameserver
  43. mail.butler.edu    159.242.1.6    'the' place to receive mail, use mx records
  44.                                        to point everything to here
  45. butler.edu         159.242.1.2    a general way to provide access to our Cluster

  47. Aparently this is not what was intended by this feature, bummer.  I still
  48. cannot gleen the intended function from the manual, Tech support had to
  49. tell me this was really intended for use with NFS only.  Unfortunately I
  50. had already registerd NAMES.BUTLER.EDU as our domain nameserver.  At first
  51. I thought that I would have to change this, but then I saw the CNAME record
  52. available in DNS (remember I'm new at this) so I just added a record to make
  53. OVID.BUTLER.EDU be the real host for NAMES.BULTLER.EDU.  Should I really
  54. change this with the NIC??  I'm guessing the answer is yes.

  57. What I'm looking for from those of you who have a more experience with
  58. Multinet, DNS and Internet in general is for someone to look over the
  59. attached info to make sure that it is right.  I will try to include everything
  60. would be required.
