- I am in search of what I would call "music notation" software for the
- Macintosh.
-
- First I should say that I do _not_ want software that controls a keyboard
- through a MIDI interface. (I already have a keyboard, thank you. It's
- made by Steinway and doesn't require a MIDI.) All I want this software
- to do is put notes (and words) on paper, sort of like a word processor
- for musical notation (actually, probably more like page description than
- word processing). Also special sound capabilities are irrelevant to me;
- I'm not going to use the Mac to _play_ the music.
-
- If you know of software that does what I want, but also drives a MIDI-and-
- keyboard (but does not _require_ them), I'm interested.
-
- Second let me add that I've heard the argument that "notating by computer
- takes forever and is cumbersome." I'd still like to try it if it exists.
- Try doing a 3-4 hour stint of manuscript--your fingers develop permanent
- impressions from the pen and your notation starts to look like a 3-year-
- old's finger painting.
-
- This notation software should allow variable note spacing and text
- underlay (i.e. the words to a song) and cut-and-paste operations should be
- possible. (A lot of music is just repetition or slight variation.)
-
- Please provide vendor as well as the product information, if you know it,
- and thanks!
