- I've got good reasons to switch from DOS to UNIX: I *like* UNIX as an
- environment, I once worked for an SCO Advanced Product Centre, some of the
- machines that I use from time to time are UNIX of either the SCO or AT&T
- variety; I have a 386/40 with a SCSI hard drive, etc...
-
- So, why don't I? Money. I'd want a recent version of UNIX, with DOS
- Merge and a C compiler. To get that from SCO would cost about $2,000, I
- believe... and for that I could upgrade to a 486 with more RAM and a larger
- hard drive and feel much better about it than if I'd paid the money for the
- SCO OS and DevSys and found that it's barely tolerable on a 386/40 and crowded
- in 200 MB.
-
- I run Waffle 1.65 now. It's not UNIX and trn, but it's decent.
-
- I've gated stuff from UUCP/Usenet to FidoNet format and read it using Fido
- tools; they are evolving to make better use of Usenet, but it's just not at
- the level that Waffle provides.

-
- Generally speaking, DOS BBSes work with Usenet only through a gateway of
- some sort, and support for features we take for granted under UNIX or even
- Waffle are either poor or completely missing.
