  20. in the USA, with twice as many placements as his closest competitor.

  25. And so on.  George Will has become the most reliable spokesperson
  26. for the Bush Administration in all the mass media.  Lee Atwater once
  27. boasted that his greatest accomplishment was placing fax machines in
  28. the offices of the nation's fifty most widely read "journalists"
  29. so that the Reagan White House could more easily and thoroughly
  30. determine what the story of the day would be.  Will got the first one.
  31. It's no surprise the thing's still working.

  33. To better understand how this kind of thing happens, take a look at
  34. _Unreliable Sources: A Guide to Detecting Bias in News Media_ by
  35. Martin E. Lee and Norman Solomon, ISBN 0-8184-0561-9, or a few issues of
  36. _EXTRA!_, the journal (ISSN 0895-2310) of the non-profit Fairness and

  40. Senator Gore's _Earth in the Balance_ begins with an overview of the
  41. current threats to human survival as understood by the scientific
  42. community.  After spending a few pages slamming the Deep Ecologists it
  43. proceeds into a thoughtful analysis of modern culture as a
  44. dysfunctional system.  Hardly the superficial whining of a mainstream
  45. liberal.  Not a typical campaign book either.  Take a look and decide
  46. for yourself if Will's misrepresented it.
