  10. The newer grendel, and rigler, are swapping tales about coming or not
  11. coming to the aid of a person in distress.

  13. In one of my less brave moments, I let a friend, built like a brick,
  14. run to the aid of a cop whose handcuffed prisoner (before the days of
  15. wire mesh barriers between front and back seat) had come over the back
  16. seat of the squad car and started choking him. We noticed the squad car
  17. squeal to a halt half a block away. Broomstraw thin me, 183 cm and 66
  18. kg, just stood and watched. My friend later told me he'd never have
  19. gone if he'd not thought me right behind him. He grappled the guys's
  20. arm off the cop's throat until the cop got the prisoner back under
  21. control, then came back to chew me out. Fair enough.

  23. But it was him who was scared to show up in court to testify against
  24. the prisoner for assaulting the cop, and me who insisted, and called
  25. the cops to provide names and numbers, and _did_ show up and did put
  26. the prisoner away for five to ten.

  28. Lots of us are scared of different things.  Contrariwise, physical
  29. bravery is not the only kind.  Find ways you can be brave in the aid
  30. of the social fabric, and exercise them.
