- )I'm having problems litter-training Stuart and am hoping that someone
- )here can help. (He's not long for my house if we can't solve this, but
- )I *really* don't want to give him up.)
- )
- )He seemed to more or less get the idea when the box was in his cage and
- )he was locked in it, so I started leaving the door open. He still mostly
- )got it, except for a few pellets on the floor that I assume are basically
- )territory marking. He had an occasional tendency to pee in another corner,
- )behind a door, but mostly he used the box.
- )
- )Then I went on vacation. During that time he apparently decided to do
- )*all* his eliminations in that corner. My house sitter got the bright idea
- )of putting the box there (you can sort of get in and out of the room with
- )it there), and that appeared to mostly work. I came home, cleaned up the
- )rest of the mess, and left the box there. That was Monday.
- )
- )In the last few days he's shown an annoying tendency to use the area
- )*around* the litter box, rather than the box itself. I've tried vinegar.
- )I've tried chili powder. I've tried heavy scolding. Nothing is working.
- )We have reverted to him being locked in his cage with the litter box,
- )a situation I don't like. I left him in the cage last night and today,
- )and when I let him out tonight he went right back to making extensive
- )messes on the floor. He's back in the cage again.
- )
- )I sift most of the pellets out of the litter daily and change it about
- )weekly. I praise him and give him treats when I see him do the right
- )thing and scold him when he does the wrong thing. He has gotten the
- )idea in the past, so it looks like I'm dealing with a beligerent bunny
- )who's finally gotten comfortable enough in my house to defy me. Or
- )something like that.
- )
- )By the way, I tried putting his food bowl in that corner tonight (someone
- )suggested this to me privately). He moved it partially out of the way and
- )worked around it.
- )
- )Can anyone here offer any suggestions? Please?
- )
