  31. #2: Dr. Warren Hern in Boulder, Colorado.  I mention this because it seems
  32. the terrorist wing of the "pro-life" movement already nows where he is
  33. and has fired rifle shots through the clinic windows.  I think this 
  34. falls squarely in the category of "terrorist".  Dr. Hern now works 
  35. behind 6 layers of bullet proof glass.

  37. If I recall correctly, 60 minutes explained how one woman, who needed an
  38. abortion to save her life, was refused an abortion at several hospitals
  39. either because they had no doctors that knew how to do it, or because 
  40. they had doctors that knew how but refused to do so because they know 
  41. what happens to doctors who do abortions (remember the rifle shots?).  
  42. Finally, after traveling by plane through several states, being turned 
  43. away from several hospitals, she arrived unconscious at the clinic of 
  44. Dr. Hern and received the abortion, apparently narrowly avoiding death.  
  45. Is this what is known as "abortion on demand"?

  47. By indiscriminatly terrorizing all doctors who perform abortions, many
  48. in the pro-life camp have a defacto policy of banning *all* abortions 
  49. for *any* reason, INCLUDING to save the life of the pregnant woman.
  50. Further, the "pro-life" "Lambs of God" may well find some "Hands of God" 
  51. to answer their prayers for the DEATH of all who might perform an abortion.

  53. One might argue that technically the US law grants "abortion on demand",
  54. but this anecdote illustrates that in reality it can be extremely 
  55. difficult to obtain an abortion EVEN IN LIFE THREATENING SITUATIONS
  56. and EVEN IF YOU HAVE LOTS OF MONEY to fly from state to state.  I think
  57. this explains why many are opposed to ANY restrictions on abortion
  58. even though they may agree with the spirit of SOME restrictions.
